Music

Because a good deal of Irish traditional music circulated orally, we often cannot definitely date specific works or authors.  In the links that follow, citations indicate the earliest known author or arranger is cited and the best date (often simply a “no later than”, indicated the date of the first published version).  You can click on the embedded Youtube video to watch or hear interesting (but not always traditional) versions of the song and links to most lyrics are also available.  To listen to the music and see the lyrics, right-click the lyric link and open it in a new tab.  You can then follow along with the words.
